The Beginning

Her first business was started in 1974 with her partner George Boulton called Bellevue's Top Dog Styling Salon. Along with running the salon, she became a top winning, AKC professional all breed dog handler and also raised and showed champion chow chows. In 1981 she received two awards from the Chow Chow Club Inc. The Brood Bitch of the Year Award, was for having the most champion puppies in one litter. This award is to encourage breeders to breed quality not quantity. The Certificate of Merit Award was for having 7 chow dogs which were bred by her receive their championships in one year. Most breeders have one or two.

The Transition

.Her second business, Bellevue's Goldenleash Grooming Salon, was opened in 1980. She ran the salon and also taught basic dog obedience classes in the evening, in her vacant space next door. In 1983 she was one of the first 5 groomers in the state of Washington to receive her Master Groomer certificate from the Professional Pet Groomers Certification Inc. This is the only independent certification test in the USA. Other large businesses certify their own people by their own standards and they are not certified by an independent agency.

Final Chapter

Her third business, Duvall's Goldenleash Pet Spa & Getaway was started in 1990 till present. After having two children Claudia decided to open a salon on her own property, as she missed her children too much to work in Bellevue any longer. She worked the salon as the only business until Claudia converted the upstairs into a deluxe doggie apartment.

Now Claudia is enjoying just being a full time pupper sitter, with the whole shop converted into upscale doogie condos. She has now retired from grooming, and spends her day training and walking your loved ones!
